Design for accesability

Safer-Cap is a reclosable, child-resistant closure system that replaces high opening forces with a simple cognitive gate.  Adults follow the intuitive 3 Dimensional tactile cues, while young children, who lack the planning and spatial skills, are distracted by the limted visual cues/ ppuzzles the prevent the cap from opening.

The mechanism is:

• Low-force and arthritis-friendly – designed so adults with reduced grip strength can open and re-secure the cap with minimal pain or strain. The design requires minimal grip strength and coordination.
   
• Child-resistant by design – based on cognitive gating rather than brute strength, aligned with the principles of BS EN ISO 8317 for reclosable child-resistant packaging.
   
• Manufacturing-ready – injection-mouldable, and eaiy addaptedto a wide range of applications, like pharmaceutical bottles, household chemicals, and personal care products. 
• Sustainable & Scalable – Designed for both single-use and refillable packaging solutions. We support design for re-use and encourage extended product lifecycles and circular service models. 

Safer-Cap is a revolutionary child-resistant and arthritis-friendly closure system designed to make medical and chemical packaging both safe and accessible. Unlike traditional push-and-turn caps, our low-friction, cognitive-based mechanism allows individuals with limited dexterity to open containers effortlessly while still preventing child access.

Safer-Cap is the first in a planned family of arthritis-friendly, child-resistant solutions. We are exploring how our approach can be adapted to:

• other closure formats
   
• different pack types used in medicines and household products
   
• more sustainable material options

• a broad range of other product types
